You asked and we are answering! We have a series of screening events this August launching our new series Conexíon! Conexion is a panel style talk show where Afrolatinx and Caribbean hosts discuss pressing issues in our community ranging from skin bleaching, dating, the black family, antiblack and colorism in latinx spaces and more! 

Come and celebrate the culture while having the conversations that need to be had. There will be an open bar with food for purchase. Blactina shirts will be on sale as well.

This episode is about the skin bleaching epidemic in the us as well as black communities all over the world speficially in the Caribbean and Latin America. Featured speakers include:

Chris Braz (Brazialian/Guyanese) - 
Cristo Bráz is a Detroit native and Brooklyn-based Afro-Latinx Artist. Cristo received a B.F.A in Dance from Wayne State University and is currently seeking a Master’s degree for Mental Health at Northwestern University. Cristo Joined Heidi Latsky Dance in June 2016. Brianna Brown (Dominican) - bio coming soon

Amanda Pericles (Dominican) - While society often tries to confine us to a singular identity, Amanda Pericles breaks that linearity through Afrolatinas_, an Instagram account that “highlight[s] the diversity and beauty among black women of Latin-American descent.” Boasting over 21K followers, Afrolatinas_ is a testament to the multiple identities within this community and an affirmation of the need for a more global representation of black people. In what originally started as an exploration of Amanda’s own ethnic and racial identity, Afrolatinas_ has now flourished into an intentional space for the Afro-Latinx identity, and from it, a strong community of Afro-Latinas emerged. 

Erica Lauren (Barbadian/Antiguan) - A self professed "life long learner/educator" Erica Lauren has made sure to be just that. A graduate of Emmanuel College with a Bachelors in Elementary Education and a Minor in Spanish with a K-6 Elementary License and Masters in Minority and Urban Education from University of Maryland; Erica has worked with the youngest of populations. She has taught first grade for 2 years during at which time she was a math team leader and a leading example of quality literacy instruction. Inspired by her passion for guiding and educating, Erica has since left the traditional realm of schooling and uses those skills in her business, M’Press Tarot & Ting offering holistic self care products and consultations.

Nydia Simone (Panamanian)- Founder of Blactina Media, Nydia is a filmmaker and her work focuses on telling authentic stories showcasing Afrolatinx/Caribbean peoples.

Write your script! - A beginners workshop

Nydia will teach a four hour interactive workshop for beginners about the fundamentals of script writing. Participants will walk away with knowledge on how to develop a outline, format a script, and create a beat sheet. This workshop is great for people who want to write a screenplay or web series but don’t know where to start. Bring Snacks!

*This workshop is capped at 25 people.
